Two more wreaths

Here is a wreath I made by wrapping a styrofoam wreath with zebra print floral ribbon. Then, I glued on several pieces of various blue ribbon, along with a fuzzy bit on the side. I put a bit of black chalkboard paper into a small frame and glued it on front, where I will write the teacher's name it's going to. I added buttons and other sparkly things around it for some extra fun. She's going to love it!

I made another school supply wreath by taking an old Christmas wreath and tearing the pine, holly, and poinsettias off (and storing them for another project, of course!) It had the brown vines sticking off, and I didn't want that, so I re-wrapped the wreath using floral wire.

I added school supplies and voila! Super cute!

Back-to-School Wreaths

Today, after many months of thinking about it, I finally made a new Back-to-School wreath for my classroom door. Except I didn't make just one... I made three! I think they all turned out great; I'm going to have a tough time deciding which one to hang up and what to do with the other two. I left them all blank so they could be customized (name/room number) with chalk or a marker. I tried to get a few pictures of each one, but the lighting and shadows are just awful at my house.

Wreath 1: My WM only had 1 grapevine wreath, so I used some of my heavier items to decorate it with. I first wrapped the wreath with a strip of dark red tulle, and used typical school stuff (crayons, markers, pencils, highlighters, glue, paperclips, erasers, ruler, hand sanitizer) as well as a small piece of corkboard and black chalkboard paper. I finished it off with a postcard that says "Welcome to our Class!"

Wreath 2: I wrapped a styrofoam wreath with wired ribbon decorated with school buses, then used a measuring tape to wrap over half. (I also used the measuring tape as the hanger, if the door needs it.) I found the most adorable ribbon at Michaels on clearance last year, so I made a cute bow to glue on top. I added many of the same items as the first wreath, however this postcard looks a little different. It's also a bit smaller than the grapevine wreath.

Wreath 3: If you've browsed through other pages of my craft blog, you might have noticed a wreath I made last year that looks very similar to this. I used the same concept, buy gluing pencils in pairs, then sets, but this time I glued wooden dowel rods behind the back set to brace them a little better. This wreath is very simple in design. I have several big cut outs of school stuff (WM last year on clearance) and so I glued the ginormous glue bottle onto my pencil frame, then added a few crayons (those weird colors that didn't match wreath 2) that matched the ribbon accents. I added a touch of corkboard with notebook paper (customizable!) and a binder clip for effect. The shadow was super bad on these pics (oops!) but I can promise you it looks AMAZING in person. Thanks for looking!

Back to The Real World

I started back to work on August 13, and my bright-eyed, bushy-tailed students came in on the 20th. We've had a great first couple of weeks, but boy, am I wiped out! Each grade level has a webpage/blog that we're responsible to update regularly this year, so I set aside a few minutes this afternoon to get caught up.

On Wednesday I had a couple hours to hang out at school while waiting for my BFF Caty to get off work so we could celebrate her birthday, but instead of being practical and organizing paperwork, getting lesson plans together, or putting grades in our new online gradebook program, I decided to craft a little. I pulled out my hot glue gun (what, you don't keep one of those in your classroom!?) and looked around for some supplies. I've had this idea in my head for a few weeks to make a School Supply Wreath, after seeing a crayon wreath on Pinterest. I think it turned out pretty cute.

I pretty much used things laying around the room, except for the bow ribbon I brought from home, and the corkboard/chalkboard paper I got at ACMoores a few months ago. I finished gluing those on Friday after school, and now it's done. The black is actually chalk paper, so I could write "Welcome to Mrs. Lynch's Class" or whatever on it. Completely erasable. If I make anymore, I'll probably just use black paper.

And for the record- I had purchased all of the items myself, save for the 3 paperclips. No griping on teachers wasting school supplies!

Library Shelf Stained Glass

My basement guest room has a deep window that is eye-level with our drive-way. When we moved in I decorated the room with a dark cottage co...
