We're back to a busy back-to-school schedule but I did have a little spare time to make these zippered pouches with some leftover fabric from other projects. I got the Hemingway Pouch pattern from Center Street Quilts. They are SO EASY to make and I like using my Sashiko machine for the cute hand-stitching.
I saw this fabric and had absolutely no idea what I would use it for but had to have it!
I ended up using it to make a lap quilt using a very simple pattern. I wanted to appreciate the ombre in the fabric and leave lots of design showing. I used my Sashiko on each row to give it the hand stitched look.
This quilt will always remind me how bad I am at math. I saw a similar design online and thought for sure it would be easy to create my own version. IF ONLY I KNEW WHAT A SQUARE WAS.
This throw ended up being made up entirely of rectangles 2.5x3.5 inches, or thereabouts. How, I still have no idea. I'm also not even sure how I was able to make half-square triangles... that are actually half-rectangle triangles. I made about 20 of them until it finally worked (for most of them, at least. There are a couple yellows that aren't quite right and I have no idea why.)
I used my Sashiko to give it some interest but there was no rhyme or reason for how it went. You can also see I was about 15 inches short on navy fabric for finishing the binding. This is one of those projects I was grateful to finish. Sometimes it's important to remember that I don't have to focus on the finished product, instead I can focus on the progress I made and the process along the way. As always, this was a learning experience!
